10:13 am - seeing dad
preface: my father passed away in 2010. last nite i had this dream: i was in my room at the house i now live in. there was a knock at the door that opens into the hallway. the door separates the garage from the house. before i could answer, the door opened and a man walked past my room. i went into the hall to see who this was. the man turned around. it was my father! i was in a state of shock. knowing my father was no longer alive, yet here he was right in front of me. wtf??? he looked healthy as if he was in his 60's or 70's. tanned, a full head of white hair and a smile on his face. he was wearing a light colored short sleeve shirt and dark slacks. i just stood there speechless. he had a gift for me. it was in a very small "christmas" type bag with handles. the bag was a shiny royal blue. i don't recall if he gave me the bag and i set it down somewhere or he set it down. at any rate i never opened the gift to see what it was. then we were in the living room, he started to stumble so i grabbed him from the front with both of my arms and helped him sit on the couch. i remember the feeling of how heavy he was. so there he was sitting on the couch in front of me when i was suddenly overcome with thoughts of sorrow and joy. sorrow because i knew he had passed 6 years ago and joy because he was sitting right in front of me at this very moment. i started to cry uncontrollably as he sat there looking at me, smiling, with his hands clasped on his knees. then we were in another room of the house. there were other folks in the room. i began to talk to them. i turned to check on my father and he was gone. i went into another room and he was there. again there were other folks in the room who i began to talk to. again when i looked to see if he was ok, he was gone. this time however, i could not find him. i looked in every room asking everyone if they had seen my dad. no-one had seen him. i went outside to see if he was there. some kids were playing in the yard so i asked them, "have you seen my dad?". they had not. as suddenly as he had come into the house; he had left. we never spoke a word the whole time. the dream morphed: i was sitting in a booth at a restaurant drinking a glass of beer. someone i knew walked by me and said, "you here drinking beer again?". i remember thinking, "i deserve this beer. i just saw my father."

3:57 pm - japan rocks, rolls and takes a bath
ok, i'm reading "let us pray for those in japan" "let us give aid to those in japan" "anything can happen at any time, be prepared" "its the beginning of 'the end of times'" whoaaaaaaaaaa folks!
i agree, the earthquake and ensuing tsunami that fucked japan in the ass is catastrophic! prayers? ummmm, ok. but aid? how about our own coast line and the islands of hawaii: maui and the the big island, hawaii? should we not take care of our own first? i had a teacher in collage that once asked the students in the class, what they thought was the most critical current event in the world (this was the early 70's) that needed to be solved? almost every person resounded "viet nam". our teacher shook his head in disdain. he stoop up, looked at us and said, "we as a people (country) tend to run away from our own problems and try to solve those of other nations." the most critical thing that needs to be taken care of is in our own backyard! our failing inner cities that are corrupted with crime and poverty and disease." we were stunned, but he was right. and i am right on this one: u.s. first, then worry about the rest of the world. oh, and did everyone just forget about pearl harbor? i don't think the families of the guys entombed in the belly of the arizona have forgotten! japan kicked our ass with a surprise attack, destroyed most of our naval fleet and blew up everything and killed everyone they could on the island with "extreme prejudice"!

now, the whole biblical "end of times" thing. i believe in a higher power (god, the great creator, etc.), i also believe that when (i think it was paul) wrote his letters to the thessalonians about the second coming of jesus (the rapture) he was sincere in believing that this would take place sometime in the near future. well, what if it did? what if we are the children of those that were left behind? yeah, try to swallow that pill.
of course the more accepted theological view is that it hasn't happened yet. ok, cool. but if even jesus doesn't know when it is going to happen, what makes us as "god's children" think we can figure it out?
please!! "oh, the weather is changing, there are lots of earthquakes, volcanos are erupting", etc. doesn't anyone other than myself watch the discovery channel? approximately every 10,000 years there is an ice age. we are getting close to that point (give or take a few thousand years). there was a "mini" ice age when our country was still fighting the british for our independence. look at the painting of washington crossing the delaware. it is historicly correct from a climate standpoint. there would have been blocks of ice on the river. there was a summer "that wasn't". the island of krakatoa blew the fuck up and the folks twenty miles away on one side were incinerated by the plasmatic flow, the folks twenty miles the other way were drowned by the tsunamie. this shit is nothing new to our planet.
the earth is billions of years old, it has gone through all kinds of climate changes, shit, it was an ice planet at one time!!
so don't tell me the end of the world is near using weather as your indicator.
god made the earth, i believe that. tectonic plates, the "ring of fire", his.

4:43 pm - been a long time gone..................
warning! this is a rant!! turn back now!!!

i have been a member of the retail clerks union since 1966. (no "i wasn't even born yet" jokes)
well over approximately the last ten years i have noticed that and have endured the fact that; "my" union has been taking a slow shit!!! lost benefits, lost job security, lost lost LOST!!! things that the members in the 40's and 50's fought for..........DIED FOR!!! ALL GONE TO GREEDY MONEY HUNGRY BASTARDS!
the topper however, was today my dear lj and facebook friends. a dear friend of mine, also a union member, went to see her doctor today and was turned away..................because she was a dollar and some odd cents short on her premium..............................A DOLLAR SHORT!!!

WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THIS SOCIETY??? WITH THIS MEDICAL SYSTEM??? no one could say, "go see the doctor. we will worry about the dollar later?"

and what was the unions response to my friend when she called to find out what she could do?: "drive down here, pay the dollar and we will make sure you get to see the doctor tomorrow." which translates to: drive way the fuck out to where we are so you can spend an hour on the freeway and 20 bucks in gas, give us a dollar and maybe you can see the doctor tomorrow. unless of course what you have kills you befor then.

richard pryor once said (as a joke?) "the only fucking god we believe in is on a dollar bill!"

current mood: i am in no mood......

7:23 pm - stir of echos 2010.....maybe kinda sorta
it has been a little over a month since my dad passed................
the day he passed (around 2:00 that friday afternoon in late march) caused quite a stir amongst our family above and beyond the fact that he was no longer "amongst the living".

me: that morning at work as i walked down the hall of the breakroom to use the "little boys" room i noticed (at the end of the hall) what looked like a statuette of the virgin mary in a kneeling position....praying. i was like, w.t.f.?? upon closer inspection i realized it was merely a bag of dog food in a blue and white pkg. again, later that day, i saw the same thing as i walked down that hall. at which time i thought to myself, "boy, you need more sleep or a better pair of glasses!" that evening, after he had passed, i went to the frig in the garage to get another beer (i was quaffing quite a few that day). as i opened the frig door i could of sworn someone was standing right behind me, i turned and of course, no one was there. freaked me out a little to the point that i got a chill down my back...............

cousin alex: later that evening alex, his dad george and my brother robert along with our cousin jorden went to give grandma julia the news. she took it fairly well. (she's 97)
when alex and george got back in the car to go home, they noticed that the digital display on the radio was flashing, it was not the correct date, it was the date my mom and dad were married.

mom: that night my cousin jorden and i stayed to give my mom (her aunt) company. in the morning my mom asked jorden where the other pillow was. she had given her two that evening. one of which was my dads. jorden told her that she had put both pillows back on the bed. dads pillow was not there. we started looking everywhere, even places it couldn't possibly have been. we were about to give up when my mom noticed "stuffed" between the bed and the wall was the pillow. she had to struggle to get it out from that tight spot.

my "sis" nancy: the night befor my dad passed away she had a dream about her grandmother. she (her grandmother) was on the other side of a river, and yelled to nancy, "don't worry, i got him!"

the next door neighbor (an older lady of asian decent): told us that she had had a premonition about my dads death, she heard a voice cry out to her (in her language) the evening befor.

so, up untill two days ago that was pretty much it, then i had a dream about my dad: my brother dave and i were at a table eating (dinner?) with our dad. he looked younger, maybe in his 50's. my dad was almost done with his meal when he just stopped, looked at his food, then my brother and i, then simple said, "i can't finish." we both encourged him to eat more......then i woke up.

12:20 pm - movie review...ok, "b" movie review
bought the dvd of "jennifer's body",
a "tongue in cheek" script, a few stagnant scenes, but good special effects, a bit gory, though the plot is a little "used" their is plenty of eye candy (including a kiss scene that if the camera was any closer it would have been in megan's throat)!
anyway, don't buy it unless you're like me and HAVE to have these kinds of flics, otherwise: rent it for a dollar or borrow it from some dork like me who already has it!

oh yeah, here's the trailer:

9:29 am - riverside on parade...................
woke up this morning, six thirtyish, to the pitter patter of rain on my bedroom windowsill and the mild clap of thunder in the distance. how cool i thought. that thought, however, was rudely interrupted by the next extremely loud house shaking clap of thunder that sounded like it popped right over our house and lite the whole house up like we were surrounded by police with their spotlites pointed at us!
well that didn't scare the pee out of me, but i did have to go.
went, and as i departed the bathroom, the big brother of thunder claps exploded over our house. shaking the house so bad that a typewriter (a what?) fell from the top of one of our closets onto the floor dislodging the closet door from its hinges............yeah like that!
the rain and thunder has cleared out now and the sun is peeking through..so far.
oh, going to my dads today to spend the weekend.

how cool is that?

current mood: did you hear that?

3:22 pm - back from bataan...................uh, hecinda heights that is.
spent several days with my dad, my step mom, my brother robert, his wife margy, both my daughters, cathy and teri and her husband chris. most importantly, my brother dave from colorado who hasn't been down this way in about 5 years.
it was really cool, one evening we went to a place that sells fish that had a small restaurant inside as well, in santa monica. i had the a "fish soup" if you will, that had mussels, clams, calamari, and other cut up fish in a spicy tomato "soup" base. it was YOM!!!
the next day we went to the santa monica pier. believe it or not, old cooly had never been to that pier. it was cooly cool!
friday was my dad's "b" day, but we celebrated on saturday at mimi"s so all the family could go. it was very nice.
one of the days i was down there i asked my brother dave if he knew anything about you tube.
he did not.
i asked him if he would like to see a few of my favorite videos i had found while surfing you tube.
he said sure.
so i should him this one first. he enjoyed it so much it almost brought tears. (which is my reaction pretty much every time i see it) enjoy:

THEN...........................i showed him this one. he was blown away!

yeah......see what i mean?

all you folks in lj land, have a great evening!

cooly out.................................

11:45 am - back to morro
went to morro bay saturday, it was cooly cool! about 80 degrees, which felt great to me, but the locals thought it was a heat wave! hahahaha!!!
went into cayucos and had dinner at the sea shanty, my favorite place to eat.
dinner included clam chowder, salad with ranch, baked potato, grilled red snapper and of course a glass of "hef" on tap. yummie!!!

stayed at the econo lodge which is caddy corner from the days inn, which is where i usually stay. however a 20 dollar difference per room swayed me over to econo. the rooms were just as big and had all the amenities that days inn has, so i was pleased. just the parking sucked.........barely enough room to get in and out without running into another car.

anyway, here is a pic looking at morro rock from my doorway........

9:20 am - "........night for a moondance"
chrissy text me sunday asking if i wanted company..............are you kidding? of course i told her, "sure come on over", she has never seen where we live now and it had been a week since i had seen her.
she called for directions and we talked the whole time about her problems with her ex all the way up to her arrival.
we sat out front and had a few brews while she told me more about the "ex factor".
my niece michelle, mikes oldest daughter came over to where we were sitting, i introduced chrissy to her and her to chrissy and she hung out with us, which of course caused a change in the subject matter. this proved to be a good thing.
my other niece, rachelle came outside and hung out with us also.
the girls, chrissy included, talked of movies, working out, etc. i could see chrissy's mood changing for the better.
later in the evening mike, penny and my nieces went out to eat. i had already eaten and chrissy said that she too had eaten earlier with her kids and was not hungry.
we sat outside a bit longer and then chrissy said, "want to play a game of darts?"
do i want to play darts? do bees make honey?
so we go inside, i show her the house and we go to the "game room" to and play a game of darts.
i ask chrissy if she wants some music and she says, "sure".
i have a 5 disc cd player that i had put cds in a few months back, i had no idea what cd would play first when i turned it on.
it was billy ocean's "suddenly" album.
for those not in the know, the first song on the album is caribbean queen.
chrissy smiled, started singing with the song and doing a little dancing in between throwing darts.
she was making me laugh. she was having fun and acting all crazy.............
the dart game was almost over when the title song came on and chrissy wanted to slow dance.
we did.
she thanked me for "being there" for her.
i told her i would always be there for her, we kissed, exchanged "i love you's" and finished the game.
oh yeah, she won..........blah!
she called her oldest, told her she was on her way.
i walked her to her car........another hug........another kiss.

"what a wonderful night.............."
